2019-11 | VICTORIA'S LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL 2019
INTRODUCED IN THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY: The bill foreshadowed below in July 2019, which would remove Victoria's option for multi-councillor wards, and replace countback with the inferior Western Australian Legislative Council's method for filling casual vacancies, was introduced into the Legislative Assembly on 13 November 2019. |
2019-11 | PRSA(SA) SUBMISSION TO SOUTH
AUSTRALIA'S LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION REVIEW: The above submission appears here. It argues against the Minister's proposal to replace SA's use of PR-STV for municipal elections with its unfair, previously discontinued "bottoms-up" counting system. |
2019-09 | PRSAV-T INC. SUBMISSION TO TASMANIA'S
LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION REVIEW: The above submission appears here. |
2019-08 | PRSAV-T INC. SUBMISSION TO INQUIRY

2019-07 | MINISTER'S PROPOSAL TO REMOVE
VICTORIA'S OPTION FOR MULTI-COUNCILLOR WARDS: The PRSA's Victoria-Tasmania Branch has written to all Victoria's MPs urging them to retain the above option in Victoria's proposed Local Government Bill 2019, which unfortunately seeks to remove it entirely. Unlike the Government's Local Government Bill 2018, which lapsed, the 2019 Bill has not been disclosed online, nor has there been a provision for submissions, which although invited until 31 July 2019, are not to be placed on the Local Government website, as had been done for the 2018 Bill. An article in The Age reports on opposition to this erratic proposal to discontinue multi-councillor wards. See 'the most regressive electoral reform (?) from Labor in decades', and PRSAV-T Inc's submission. |
2019-06 | MRS ALISON HARCOURT AO: A member of the Proportional Representation Society of Australia since 1982 - as mentioned in her entry on the Australian Honours search facility - Mrs Alison Harcourt, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. She was given the award for "distinguished service to mathematics and computer science through pioneering research and development of integer linear programming". This followed the award to her by the University of Melbourne in 2018 of the honorary degree of Doctor of Science. |
2019-05 | ARTICLES ON VOTING FOR EACH FEDERAL
HOUSE: Articles on the voting system for the Senate, and for the House of Representatives, by Dr Stephen Morey, National Secretary, Proportional Representation Society of Australia, are on The Conversation website. |
2019-04 | HOW-TO-VOTE CARDS: A good article, calling for how-to-vote cards to be banned, and the PRSA letter in support, was published in The Age of Melbourne on 02 April 2019. |
